Project Overview
Invertay Homes, Ltd. engaged MR Acoustics to conduct post-completion sound insulation testing at a new residential development on Summerfield Avenue, Dundee. This test aimed to ensure compliance with the Scottish Building Standards for sound insulation in newly constructed dwellings. Testing was focused on assessing the airborne sound insulation of separating walls in two adjoining homes, to validate that the construction met with the Scottish Building Regulations Technical Handbook- Section 5 (Noise).
The sound insulation tests confirmed that the construction at Summerfield Avenue met the stringent standards set by the Scottish Building Standards. The tested separating walls—between the master bedrooms and between Bedroom 3 in each unit—achieved sound insulation ratings of 70 dB DnT,w and 64 dB DnT,w respectively. These results not only surpassed the minimum Section 5 requirements but also aligned with the more enhanced criteria established in Section 7 of the Building Regulations for Sustainability at the Silver and Gold levels. This outcome demonstrates the efficacy of Invertay Homes' construction methods in significantly enhancing residential sound privacy. This successful outcome not only ensures compliance with regulatory standards but also reflects our commitment to delivering precise, reliable test results that are ready for submission to local authorities.
"MR Acoustics has provided a fantastic service. When our previous acoustic consultant was unable to attend site, MR Acoustic stepped in and was able to provide a quick-turnaround on testing and, just as importantly – a quick turnaround on the testing certificate that we required for Building Standards sign-off. We will be happy to use their services again in the near future"
